What to Consider Before Ordering Your Handle: Determine Left or Right Hand: For top-hung windows that open outward: If the long part of the handle points to the left and the small spur points downward, you'll need a left-hand handle. If the long part points to the right and the small spur points downward, opt for a right-hand handle. For side-opening windows: If the long part points downward and the small spur points to the right, choose a left-hand handle. Determine the Backset: To measure the backset (stack height), measure from the baseplate (the part that rests flat against the window) to the underside of the handle nose. For guidance, consult our measuring guide. How to Remove and Replace Your Cockspur Window Handle: Remove the screw cover cap to reveal two screws. Unscrew and remove. Move the handle to the open position, revealing two more screws. Remove as before. Once all four screws are removed, the handle should come off. Replace it by aligning the new handle with the old screw holes. Secure the new screws into place. After fitting the screws at the top and bottom of the base, place the screw cover (if applicable) over the screw hole at the top of the base.
