《起搏心电图基础教程》一书是美国汤姆?肯尼（TomKenny）撰写的“心律植入装置”四书为一套的丛书。该套丛书自2006年出版的英文版第一本《ICD基础教程》为开始，就在当年，我们将之译为中文版。随后在2008年的8月及12月，我们再将《心脏起搏器基础教程》及《CRT基础教程》译为中文版并与中国读者见面。这套三姊妹的丛书，一经出版，销售盛况惊人，原因十分简单，首先是市场需求，而且作者的阐述又是思路清晰，文笔流畅，从浅入深，由表及里，使读者从概念建立，到用之于临床实践，逐步前行。
随后Tom Kenny又推出了丛书的第四本《起搏心电图基础教程》，我们也马上组成译者队伍而着手翻译。
TomKenny的《起搏心电图基础教程》一书与前三本的风格一致，仍采用理论与实践相结合的教学写作模式。第一部分为起搏基本概念和相关理论，其内容针对相关的概念与理论各自成章、成节而一一介绍。而第二部分则为起搏心电图的实际应用，主要根据起搏心电图的内容由易逐渐变难，并由浅逐渐变深地提高读者阅读和诊断起搏心电图能力。在第二部分内容中，也人为地分成四个阶段，分别为初级起搏心电图、中级起搏心电图、复杂起搏心电图及混合起搏心电图。

第一节 心率与间期的计算
几乎所有的临床医师在培训中都学习了如何阅读心电图。上图是教科书中可以看到的典型心电图，这份心电图非常完美，但您在临床实践中可能从来没看到过。这很正常，因为您的确应该先从教科书学起，然后将学到的知识应用于临床中遇见的各种各样的实际问题。
体表心电图是电能的图形显示。形成这些轨迹的电能是从患者体表获得的。令人吃惊的是，只有拳头大小的心脏却可以产生足以能够在体表读取到的能量。
心电图上最小的圆形隆起是P波，它代表着心房的除极。紧跟其后的是心电图中最大的波形，一个围绕在基线上、下方行走的有尖峰的波形，称作QRS波群（有时也简称为R波）。这个锐利、有尖峰的波形代表着心室除极。心室比心房体积大很多，心室收缩泵血时产生的电能也就更多，因而QRS波群的轨迹比P波更大。短暂的停顿之后是另一个被称作T波的圆顶波。T波代表着心室复极，也就是心室从除极恢复到基础状态的过程。
标准的心电图纸上有网格，可以帮助你计时。网格由许多高、宽均为1mm的小格组成。每个小格代表40ms的时间间期。每个粗线大格的高、宽均为5个小格。每个大格代表200ms，5个大格等于1000ms或1s。
通过计算格子的数目，您可以快速算出某个心动周期或计时周期的近似值。当我们分析起搏心电图时，这将变得越来越重要。对于起搏器而言，计时是一切！
