DIY装修这个过程很像创业，被牵着走，有些体力活比工作还要辛苦。认真思考过后，也有模有样地做过一些工作节点表，可到了实际操作中，却发现有各种各样的问题和困难在拖延你的时间，加之连日的体力消耗不甚辛苦，很多事情会胶着到无力解决。总是解决完一个问题，又出现新的问题。但当你再去追问做这件事情的初心时，仿佛一切又不是那么复杂，也没那么困难，更不需要耗费太多资金，只要你想就可以实现。总之，这是一段很奇妙的体验。
出这本书，一方面是想用自己笨拙的文字，为大家呈现一座城中的世外小桃源，分享这个闲适宁静的小世界；另一方面，是想为有计划装修或做旧房改造的朋友提供些许帮助。同时，这本书对于需要进行家庭装修的朋友也有帮助，至少可以通过这些文字了解市场行情，获得创意灵感，等等。
本书以日记体呈现，记录了打造这个小空间的全过程；同时包含装修经验心得，以及趣事感悟。比如十、十一月，以及三、四月装修工作多一些，便写得多，一、二月处于半停工状态，写身边的事会多一些，比较随性。

若用一个词概括之前的生活，那就是“匆忙”。平日里起床后，便开始匆忙收拾，匆忙赶地铁，匆忙处理工作，匆忙回家。由于老家离北京比较远，一年也就回去一两次，仅七天的休息日，匆忙度过，再匆忙回京。直到今年辞去工作，没那么多要赶的事情，过年回家时，才有机会慢慢去感受老家的变化。
当初，为求不枉此生，只身一人来到北京，想要看遍大都市的繁华。一切都要靠自己，不知道为何忙碌，没时间思考太多，只是一个劲地往前迈着脚步。漂泊中蓦然驻足回首，才惊觉浮华半生已过。有些倦了，便想停一停，做点自己一直想尝试的事情。
宣城，这座被山林环绕的城市，是一座钟灵毓秀的古老小城。宣纸便是由此发源。走在路上，不时会遇上熟人跟你打个招呼；过个马路，汽车会缓缓停下，让你先走。白天的街道上，看不到什么人；到了晚上，霓虹闪耀，人头攒动。路两边的树叶上，每天都看不到灰尘。离家时还只有一家供销大厦和一家商业大厦，如今，各品牌的入驻也将老家分割出多个商圈。

今天的日子很“6”，也是自九月份以来难得的一次放晴。
我们正式入驻，就从今天开始。
这么好的日子，连日记的文字都多了分严肃认真和雄心勃勃。
自打8号房子拿到手以来，我一直在想办法解决一个问题，那么多奇形怪状的虫子，该如何消灭？
从理想迈入现实，再在现实中打造理想国，是我们要做的事情，那么，今天就是从理想迈入残酷现实的步。
很艰难的一步。
我害怕虫子到了什么程度？初中生物书的封二页面会有虫子的彩照，内页会有虫子的图绘，我都会央求同学帮我把能撕的撕掉，能抠的抠干净。打开生物书的某个章节，里边全是大大小小的洞。
而眼前，我将要面对的是一种连名字都不知道的昆虫！
它的外形很像一根会蠕动的手指，通体深褐色，表面看起来似乎是坚硬而光滑的，圆柱形的身体布满密密的金色环线。前几天趁天晴去小屋时，见它们在地上、墙上、门上旁若无人地到处爬，连见惯世面的小乔都发怵，说在北方从来没见过这样的虫子。
我是谁？我在哪儿？我在做什么？我怎么就忘了树越多，虫子越多呢？我到底是被什么冲昏了脑子才决定来到这里的？我连它们叫什么都不知道，还怎么去对付它们呢？所幸，我是一个拥有坚定信念的孩子——以人类的伟大智慧，还怕解决不了它们吗？
今天，我可是有备而来的！带着我的新朋友——两只鸡子，一公一母，打算靠它们对此处进行一系列有效的生态治理。
