涂鸦在这里有两层意思：一是图形涂鸦，二是文字涂鸦。图形涂鸦是我的一种职业训练，而文字涂鸦纯属个人喜好。图形和文字都让我痴迷，特别是可诉说的图形和富有想象力的文字。我从不掩饰我对王小波的喜爱，王小波说：好看的皮囊千篇一律，有趣的灵魂万里挑一。我对图形和文字乃至人生也有个基本的要求：有趣。
涂鸦缘于倾诉的需要。生活中某些奇特的时刻、欲与人分享的感受、脑海里突然出现的图像、一些具有魔力的字眼……碎片就这样慢慢地堆积起来。我扒拉这些碎片，发现它们是如此的凌乱，找不到主线也找不到主旨，但却依稀能从这些碎片中看到一个略为清晰的自己。我把它们结集在这个本子里，虽然稚嫩如儿时的图画本和作文本，但也是真实的硬硬的存在。

莫泊桑经常在埃菲尔铁塔上用午餐，朋友以为他喜欢那里的菜肴，他说，不是，因为只有在铁塔里，你才看不见它，它太丑了。很多人骂着广州，痛恨广州，但还是留在广州。我不知道是不是和莫泊桑在铁塔里用餐一样。从我办公室的座位上稍微四十五度侧侧头，就能看到广州塔——“小蛮腰”，我喜欢这妖娆妩媚的“身姿”，就好像我喜欢广州一样。朋友问：你为何会喜欢广州？给我个理由。我说：喜欢需要理由的吗？他说：不需要吗？需要吗？不需要吗？……好吧，好吧，我的理由是：我的青春和所有美好都在这座城市里。
我十三岁初访广州，那时广州还是海南的“省城”，有点“故都”的意思。几十年前有位秦姓的作家曾写下《花城》，在珠江岸边眺望来往的花船，满城飘香……可当我站在江边时，并没有体会到雕栏玉砌、繁花似锦、青丝红颜……唯对那刚刚开放的白天鹅宾馆里的“资产阶级生活”耿耿于怀，似乎那才是花花世界，令人神往，以至于几年后我义无反顾地投入了广州的怀抱。
广州，我从十八岁到四十二岁，鲜衣怒马的记忆都在这里，每一个转角，每一处街景都有不同的故事。时间如白驹过隙，我在广州的二十多年里改变了许多，从学生到毕业工作，再到娶妻生子，外形则从清秀日渐变得猥琐和沧桑，胡子从唇上爬到了下巴。这座城市见证了时光在我身上的魔力，我也见证了这座城市的风景变幻。
北京、上海都有很多作家的故居。走在这些城市里，朋友会冷不丁地告诉你，这，就在这，曹雪芹写下了《红楼梦》，或是，你看二楼的窗户，那是张爱玲写《倾城之恋》时面对的窗子。似乎唯独广州缺乏这样的地方，我所知道的也只有鲁迅和秦牧曾住在广州。现当代写广州或把广州作为故事背景的经典文学作品也不多，广州像个没有太多故事的人，平凡地生活着。所以我不明白为何网上把它叫作“妖都”，或许是“小蛮腰”的缘故。
