樊友本,男,主任医师,教授,硕导,博士(MD,PhD)。先后毕业于原湖南医学院、原上海医科大学和上海交大医学院,分期到美国西南医学中心和匹兹堡医学中心作访问学者。从事普外科临床工作近30年。在甲状腺和旁腺肿瘤的诊治和研究取得较大成绩,其中腔镜辅助甲状腺和旁腺微创美容手术国内外相对领先,并发症极低;规模开展胸乳途径腔镜甲状腺手术,初步开展经口甲状腺手术,特别是国内外首创经单侧乳晕单孔单通道和经颏下腔镜甲状(旁)腺手术,使创伤更小、美容更佳;近年建立甲状旁腺亢进的6 5 1多科诊治,晚期疑难危重甲状腺癌的多科协作手术和诊治,取得较好疗效。多次到国内外交流和指导手术。

  我和我所有的作者很荣幸地受到樊友本教授的邀请,来为Springer公司出版的 Primary, Secondary and Tertiary Hyperparathyroidism: Diagnostic and Therapeutic Updates中文版写序,供中国这个强大又迷人的国度的医务人员参考。
  甲状旁腺——一枚只有40~50 mg的小腺体, William Halsted曾指出:“丢失如此微小的腺体会造成巨大的伤害,这似乎令人难以置信。”对其探索的历史开始于
1849年,当时 Richard Owen(英格兰皇家外科医学院的教授兼博物馆管理员)在对一头死于与大象混战的印度犀牛进行尸检时,发现了“一枚小小的、完整的黄色腺体附在甲状腺上静脉起点处”。1953年,Cave指出Owen是发现甲状旁腺的人,因为“虽然Remakand Wirchows在1855年就描述了疑似甲状旁腺的腺体,但Owen的文章在1852年就发表了”。可以说,甲状旁腺的发现源于对犀牛的观察。
