《本草纲目》一书共载医案500余个，记载了李时珍丰富的临床经验。为我们保存了大量的手临床实践资料。本书对《本草纲目》中的医案进行了详细的收集整理，针对这些医案，在文字上进行了翻译，将晦涩难懂的文言文转变成了通俗易懂的白话文，便于广大读者阅读；在医理上进行了阐释，让读者在阅读医案时不仅知其然更知其所以然，使读者能把握其理，应用于临床，做到古为今用。本书有较强的专业性、趣味性、故事性，可供中医药院校师生、临床医生研读，也适合中医药爱好者阅读。
医学博士，从事《中药学》《方剂学》等课程教学及临床工作10余年，临床擅长治疗内科、妇科、皮肤科疾病等。对《本草纲目》有一定的研究。主编及参编中医著作4本。

余自潜心中医以来，览灵兰秘典，诵金匮真言，专注古籍，醉心本草。恩师王绪前教授尝谓：《本草纲目》之精华在于“发明”一栏，可精读之。余谨遵师命，授课之余暇，临证之闲隙，即参悟文辞，探究医理。偶见零散医案夹杂其间，读之令人兴趣盎然，爱不释手。盖李时珍不但精于本草，而且医术高超，为证明药物之功效，常以医案为佐证，读之可彰功效之理，可知配伍之用，可察疗效之确。自此以后，对《本草纲目》医案留心搜求，揣摩其理，推敲其用，施之于临床，果然大放异彩，试举几例：
《卷13·延胡索》：“荆穆王妃胡氏，因食荞麦面着怒，遂病胃脘当心痛，不可忍……乃以玄胡索末三钱，温酒调下，即纳入，少顷大便行而痛遂止。”延胡索为活血行气止痛之良药，此案用治胃痛疗效甚佳，受其启发，凡遇胃痛则加入此药，果真止痛效速。
《卷16·车前》：“欧阳公常得暴下病，国医不能治。夫人买市人药一贴，进之而愈。力叩其方，则车前子一味为末，米饮服二钱匕。”患者腹泻，不治泻而利小便，即“开支河”之法。治腹泻时参用此法，真能事半功倍。
