《工程科学中的应用分析》的读者对象是高年级本科生和研究生，先修基础为微积分、线性代数、常微分方程和数学物理方程。基本出发点包括：

　　一，在物理科学、工程科学等方向的大学数学课程中，即便在理科见长的学校，一般也只讲授线性理论，而绝大多数理工科研究生从事的前沿研究工作都是关于非线性问题的，本课程着眼于填补学生在这方面的需求，针对常微分方程、抛物型方程、椭圆型方程和双曲型方程，侧重讲授其非线性理论与分析方法；

　　二，数学对于物理、力学和其它工程科学，不仅提供了叙述、分析的方法，更重要的是提供了严谨的思维训练和研究范式，在本科高年级和研究生阶段，通过展示数学对于专业课程内容中典型问题（如分岔、激波）的解读，可以帮助学生欣赏严谨性、系统性之美，强化学生的理性思维能力。

　　因此，《工程科学中的应用分析》不求全，不求深，主要通过一些典型的例子（如多方气体欧拉方程组），选择一些比较易懂、易用的方法，讲细讲透。因此，对于椭圆型方程这样有着完整、丰富数学理论但需要很多数学基础的内容，我们只是略讲一点初学者容易理解接受的部分。由于深感泛函分析的重要性，课程中穿插了一些相关内容（赋范线性空间、不动点、变分法、Fredholm择一原理等）。此外，还通过混沌、孤子等重要非线性现象的介绍，激发学生对于非线性问题及相关数学理论方法的兴趣。

作者简介

　　唐少强，1990年从中国科技大学获得数学理学士、无线电电子学工学士，1995年毕业于香港科技大学（数学博士），1997年进入北京大学力学系工作至今。现任北京大学应用物理与技术研究中心副主任、高能量密度物理数值模拟*重点实验室主任。长期讲授本科生、研究生课程《微积分》、《线性代数与几何》、《泛函分析》、《应用分析》、《科学计算》等，2003年和2009年两度被北京大学学生会、研究生会评为北京大学“十佳教师”，2013年入选北京市优秀教师。从事应用数学和计算力学方面的研究，在多尺度计算方法、半导体载流子输运的模型与算法、相变的动力学演化过程等方面完成了一些有意义的工作，发表SCI论文四十余篇，承担973、自然科学基金及其它项目二十余项，2006年入选*新世纪优秀人才培养计划。任中国力学会下属专业委员会、计算物理学会等的委员，以及多个国内国际期刊编委。
