许序雅，研究专长是中亚史和中外文化交流史。现任浙江师范大学人文学院历史系教授，世界史研究所副所长，浙江省中青年学科带头人。发表论文50余篇，出版专著3部，译著2部（与人合作），教材2部。主持国家社科基金“八五”规划课题“中亚史研究”子课题“中亚萨曼王朝史研究”（1995—97年），已结题。主持浙江省哲学社会科学“九五”规划课题“唐代西域地理与丝绸之路”，主持浙江省哲学社会科学“十五”规划课题“唐朝与中亚关系史研究”。

自唐高祖武德七年（624）到代宗大历七年（772），中亚诸胡与唐朝发生了长达149年的直接交往，丝绸之路成为双方政治、经济和军事交往的纽带。在中国历史上，唐朝政治势力次越过葱岭，在河中、吐火罗等地设置了羁縻州府，中亚诸胡与唐朝建立起近百年的政治附属关系。唐朝与中亚交往的历史，构成了唐代内容丰富的历史篇章。

本书是在博士论文（1998年11月通过答辩）基础上修改而成，被列为浙江省社会科学“九五”规划课题。本书是对唐代文献相关记载的系统研究，这在学术界是次。全书分为四章，每章论题各有侧重，各以一篇唐代文献（《大唐西域记》、《新唐书地理志》、《新唐书西域传》和《册府元龟》）为中心。本书的主要贡献在于作者发现唐人所记千泉、白水城、恭御城、笯赤建城、米国都城的方位有疑问，不能与阿拉伯—伊斯兰舆地文献所记相勘合；唐人把曹国（西曹）与东曹（苏对沙那）相混淆；唐人对中亚伊斯兰化进程并不了解；唐人所记中亚诸城道里有许多讹误；8世纪后期开始，随着西域东部地区政治形势的变化，丝绸之路（中国段）走向发生变化，唐人西去东归之路与中亚诸胡东来之路有所不同；中亚诸胡与唐朝关系有亲疏之分；中亚诸胡的入唐贡献，并不是“以献为名”的商业活动，而主要是政治性的活动，这种朝贡活动反映了中亚诸胡与唐朝政治关系的演变；在中亚地区，唐朝确有支持中亚诸胡抗击大食的战略，唐朝与大食的关系尚不能定性为同盟友好关系。作者提出的上述观点，对以往中外学者（如法国学者沙畹，北京大学王小甫）的许多论点有很大的修正。本书的出版，对于唐代中外关系史研究、唐代文献研究、中亚学研究都将是很大的推进。
