2．这也是一本生动的书，兼具原创性和可读性。两百余张影像作品真实呈现改造全过程，带领读者回归古村现场，这些呈现为乡村保护振兴提供了实践样本。
中山的村落文化底蕴深厚，可以说是半部中国近代史的缩影。本书聚焦中山市的雍陌、安堂、大环、沙涌、横门渔港、桂南6个村落，以图文并茂的方式记录了这些乡村的改造过程与保护振兴实施效果。全书既有中山历史村落的概况、历史、格局介绍，又有古村改造的真实故事讲述，也有对这些村落的现状问题及改造的建议和总结等。书中大量的实景照和效果图为中山历史村落的改造提供了依据，起到了理论与实践的指导作用。本书为中国历史村落的保护振兴提供了借鉴和参考。

中山古称香山，1925年为纪念孙中山先生改名为中山。《永乐大典》里记载：“香山为邑，海中一岛耳。”后经过沧海桑田的演变逐渐形成现在的中山，造就了丰富多样的聚落形态。众多的古村落主要分布于五桂山周边，这些村落承载着中山的名人文化、华侨文化和民俗文化，是讲好“中山故事”的重要载体。与珠三角的其他城市相比，中山乡村的建筑遗产虽不比五邑地区的华美，但中山的古村落数量多、建筑多元丰富且保存相对完整，具有群体价值。近代孕育了以孙中山、郑观应等为代表的众多闻名中外、影响深远的历史人物，他们在政治、经济、文化等领域深刻影响了中国近代化进程，史学界“一群广东人，半部近代史”的说法中，离不开的是香山人的身影。
2017年我们开始走村，越来越被中山乡村的魅力所吸引，也时常呼吁要保护乡村。一直到2019年农办陈柳斌主任找到我们，希望我们能参与中山的乡村振兴，我们便开始了3年的乡村振兴实践。这3年所做的乡村振兴主要项目都汇集在本书中。中山乡村的变化现以改造先后对比的方式呈现给大家，希望能为中山的乡村振兴提供实践的样本。
