一、舌诊的概念
舌诊，又称望舌．是医生通过观察患者舌质与舌苔的变化，了解机体的生理功能和病理变化，以诊察疾病、辨别证候的诊断方法。舌诊是中医学富有特色的诊法之一，属中医望诊范畴，通过观察舌苔、舌质及舌下络脉以了解病变所在，获得脏腑、气、血、津液病理变化的信息，分析疾病的发生、发展、转归及预后，并据此作为辨证论治的重要依据。
二、舌诊的临床应用价值
舌诊是中医辨证不可缺少的客观依据。《临症验舌法》中说：“凡内外杂症，亦无一不呈其形，著其气于舌……据舌以分虚实，而虚实不爽焉：据舌以分阴阳，而阴阳不谬焉；据舌以分脏腑，配主方，而脏腑不差，主方不误焉。危急疑难之顷，往往症无可参，脉无可按，而惟以舌为凭：妇女幼稚之病．往往闻之无息．问之无声，而惟有舌可验。”舌象作为重要的辨证指标，客观准确、简便易行，体现着中医诊病的传统经验和特色，为历代医家所关注。通过对舌的观察，可以测知人体正气的盛衰、病位的深浅、邪气的性质、津液的存亡、病情的轻重、病势的进退，从而判断疾病转归和预后，确定治疗方案、指导处方用药。所以舌诊是中医辨证的常规手段和重要依据。其重要意义归纳为以下6个方面。
（一）判断正气盛衰
清代著名医家徐大椿说：“疾病之人，若元气未伤，虽病甚不死，元气或伤，虽病轻亦死。”因此判断正气的盛衰在辨证论治的过程中起着至关重要的作用。所谓“有诸内者必形诸外”，所以正气的状况可以通过观察舌象来了解。
如正气充足，脏腑机能健旺，精、气、血、津液等上荣于舌，即表现为正常舌象：淡红舌、薄白苔、津液适中、运动灵活。若正气不足，脏腑虚损、气血虚少，可呈现出不同的病理舌象，如气血不足．舌质淡白少华：阴液虚少。舌体瘦薄干瘪，红绛少苔，甚则痿软颤动。
苔乃胃气所生．故验苔亦可察胃气之存亡。若苔白而润是胃气旺盛；舌光无苔为胃气衰败或胃阴枯竭，甚则可见舌苔剥落或无根，更甚则舌光洁如镜。
