世界城市日是联合国首个以城市为主题的国际日，来源于上海世博会的精神遗产，激励我们为实现“城市，让生活更美好”的共同愿景而不懈奋斗。2019年的城市日以“城市转型 创新发展”为主题，充分反映了当今国际社会的共识，即通过创新解决城市化快速推进中所面临的一系列问题，推动全球城市可持续发展。来自20余个国家和地区及国际组织、协会的专家齐聚一堂，围绕科技创新、城市发展和环境保护等热点问题深入探讨、分享成果，对加强城市交流合作、促进城市转型发展具有重要的意义。
上海市充分认识到自身的优势在于创新，解决发展中的矛盾和问题也要依靠创新，推进城市转型发展更要靠创新。党的十八大以来，按照“当好全国改革开放排头兵、创新发展先行者”的要求，上海积极践行新发展理念，走出了一条超大城市创新转型发展的路子。当前上海正全力落实中央交给上海的新的“三项重大任务”，加快建设“五个中心”，打响“四个品牌”，着力提升城市能级和核心竞争力，推动高质量的发展，创造高品质的生活。我们将通过世界城市日的平台，学习借鉴其他国家和城市的成功经验，继续走好超大城市创新转型发展之路。
